Portland, on Victoria’s southwest coast, was the site of the state’s first permanent European settlement in 1834. The town quickly prospered through fishing, pastoral and agricultural industries, and today it remains a captivating blend of history, charm, and rugged coastal beauty.

Stroll streets lined with heritage buildings, take in the action of the working port, and enjoy the abundance of local wildlife that thrives in the area — from playful whales to soaring seabirds.

Just south of town lies Cape Nelson, home to a 210-hectare state park with dramatic cliffs and the historic Cape Nelson Lighthouse standing proudly at the coast’s edge. To the west, the small seaside community of Cape Bridgewater offers stunning lookouts over Bridgewater Bay and Discovery Bay Coastal Park, a spectacular 50-kilometre stretch of coastline reaching toward the South Australian border. Keep your eyes peeled — fur seals can often be spotted during breeding season.

This 5-day adventure is designed to be relaxed & casual, yet informative and interesting.
